FAQs
Who is the best contact for HOBY Alaska?
The best contact is Erin Orchard, Leadership Seminar Chair. You can contact her at Alaskahoby907@gmail.com.
What should I expect once I arrive?
In addition to meeting lots of enthusiastic and friendly volunteers, you will be checked-in and directed to join the other ambassadors and staff. Once the program starts, you will be engaged in HOBY curriculum including guest speakers, workshops, creative activities, service projects, group time, and more, all intended to help you challenge yourself and have fun.
Will I be able to be picked up from the airport?
Yes. We will work to arrange shuttle transportation if you are arriving and departing near the times of the seminar.
What do I do if I’m not sure I can attend?
Being selected as a HOBY ambassador is an opportunity reserved for only a few students each year. Each HOBY seminar takes hundreds of hours of planning, all by volunteers. In addition, your school or community organization has made a financial commitment to sponsor your attendance at the seminar. If you find that you cannot attend the seminar for any reason, please honor the commitment of these individuals by speaking with your counselor or sponsor as soon as possible to arrange for another student to replace you. If we don’t receive your completed pre-seminar materials by the stated deadline, we will ask your school to select another representative in your place to make sure every school has the chance to be represented at the seminar.
When and where will the seminar be held?
Dates: April 10-13, 2025
Location: Anchorage
May I come and go during the weekend?
No; once you are checked in, you will stay at the seminar until the end of the closing ceremonies. Unless there is a medical or other emergency, you will not be allowed to leave the seminar for any reason during the weekend. If you don’t think you will be able to stay for the entire weekend, talk to your school counselor or sponsor and ask them to select a replacement to attend in your place.
